ASILY ACCOUNTING FOR a strong field, Wayne King has won the opening race of the second round of the Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Car Series at Mallala Motorsport Park on May 20. He will be looking to clean sweep the round with two more wins tomorrow.

LAST YEAR MALLALA race circuit represented the turning point in Simon Tabinor’s quest for his first Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Car Series. After being beaten all up at round one, Tabinor hit back on the South Australia rural circuit to take the round and ultimately go on and win the series.

SIMON TABINOR WANTED to wrap up this year’s title at the last round but it did not quite work out that way. But now he virtually only has to finish one of the three races at the final round of the Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Car Series at Sandown Park this weekend to do so.

It was a clean sweep for fast home state Ford Falcons at Queensland Raceway in round four of the Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Car Series last weekend, August 11-12, but with the absence of the series leader, it a Victorian Holden Commodore has emerged as the points leader. The round winner was Matt Shanks in his Falcon AU from Lindsay Kearns and Kane Baxter-Smith.

“The pressure was on and I knew I could not slip up or Simon would have got me,” said the defending titleholder. “I almost did slip up though. It was the last lap of race two and just past Skyline but I caught it and kept the lead.”

As he did in race one, Queenslander Lindsay Kearns (Falcon AU) snared third off NSW Peter Dane’s AU on the final lap and then was rewarded with a second in the last, ahead of Dane, when Tabinor retired.
